SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) — The Hammer & Nails grooming shop brand is growing across the country. It’s an all-in-one barbershop, nail salon and beauty spa for men. We checked out the newest location on the West Side in Santa Monica off Olympic Road.
“Guys feel uncomfortable a lot of times when they are going into a nail salon. They’re going with their girlfriends and they’re not feeling it. There’s nail polish, there’s acrylics, there is gel going on. We’re trying to create that total man cave where they can have a frosty beverage, get their hair cut and also get their nails done as well,” said franchise owner Fes Russell.
The experience starts with a quick tour, then a stop at the bar.
“We have complimentary drinks which is one of the best parts guys love. I know whether it’s water, coffee, beer, soda, liquor, we make a great old-fashioned nice smoky mezcal drink,” he said.
Then, there’s the “Cut and Shave” room for everything from haircuts to shaves to facials.
“We do great facial treatments where you can get an exfoliation, a cleanser, a charcoal face mask with your peppermint, you can use hot towels, so that’s really, really nice,” said Russell.
Then there’s the man-inspired “Hand and Foot” room.
“The best part is you get an oversized leather chair you get your noise canceling headphones you get a personalized tv screen where you can totally plug in and relax,” he said. “We have a service on our menu called the Big Daddy premium mani-pedi. It’s arguably our best seller. Guys love it because of the name, and it’s just fun.”
It’s definitely a different vibe, perfect for the clean-cut lifestyle or simply a fun day out with the buddies.
“We have bachelor parties, you know, groups of parties or as a birthday, they’re celebrating a birthday. They’ll cover the group of three or four and they’ll just hang here and relax.”
